When talking about bilingual education, it is important to clearly define what it truly means, avoiding misunderstandings or unrealistic expectations.
For our school, bilingualism does not mean simply “teaching English lessons”, nor does it focus on early performance or immediate results. Instead, it is an educational approach that places the child, their development and their everyday experience at the centre.
A natural and everyday approach
Our bilingual project is based on daily exposure to language within an authentic and meaningful context. Italian and English are not treated as separate subjects, but as living languages that accompany children throughout their school day.
English is introduced through play, relationships, educational activities and daily routines. It is never forced, but naturally integrated into school life, allowing learning to develop in a spontaneous and gradual way.
Italian as a solid foundation
Within this bilingual framework, the Italian language plays a fundamental role. Its teaching follows the National Guidelines issued by the MIUR, ensuring continuity with the national education system and respect for the developmental stages outlined for both nursery and primary education.
This solid foundation supports children in building strong linguistic skills, while allowing them to approach bilingualism in a balanced and confident way.
Every child has their own pace
One of our core principles is respect for each child’s individual learning pace. Language development does not follow a single path: every child progresses in their own time and according to their own abilities. For this reason, there are no comparisons and no standardised expectations.
Our educators’ role is to observe, support and guide, creating an environment in which languages become a means of expression, communication and discovery, rather than a target to be achieved.
A child-centred educational project
Our approach to bilingualism is rooted in the belief that learning is most effective when it is natural and meaningful. The bilingual experience therefore becomes an integral part of a broader educational project, aimed at supporting children’s overall development: linguistic, cognitive, emotional and social.
This is a journey that grows day by day, in line with educational guidelines and with each child’s needs, and one that families can explore more closely during our Open Days.
